The RoboBee
Lego Robotics Team
Gear up for 2011 FLL Challenge
Every September, FLL (First LEGO League) releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic. Each Challenge has two parts: the Robot Game and the Project. Teams of up to ten children, with one adult coach, participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game) and developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project). Teams may then choose to attend an official tournament, hosted by one of our Operational Partners.
This year, all league teams will be task to enter the Food Factor Challenge in attempts to improve the quality of food by finding ways to prevent food contamination? Participants will explore the topic of food safety and examine the possible points of contamination our food encounters - from exposure to insects and creatures, to unsterile processing and transportation, to unsanitary preparation and storage - then find ways to prevent or combat these contaminates. In the Food Factor Challenge, teams will build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT to solve a set of Food Safety missions as well as research, develop, and share their innovative food safety solutions. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under FLL's signature set of Core Values.
Our RoboBee Lego Robotics Team was formed last school year with 7 vivacious 4th Graders comprised of 6 boys and 1 girl on the team. Being the rookie for last year's challenge, they have experienced and witnessed the power of teamwork, Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition, the true core value fully endorsed by FLL.
We are now in process to finalize the team roster (max. of 7 members in 4th Grade and up) with priority given to team members on previous year's team. For any interest, please contact Ms. Grace directly before end of this week ending 9/16. Official team meeting and practice will starts 2-3 times/week on 9/19 through tournament dates in early November.
